Siya ‘Slikour’ Metane is a musician and entrepreneur best known as one of the founding members of the record-breaking hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp. Told with signature humour, this memoir gives readers an all-access pass to the moments and the music that made the man, detailing the courage it took to overcome his self-doubt and to mould himself into a media maverick.

From small beginnings in the East Rand to gaining mainstream recognition and going solo, celebrity dating and breaking up the band, hitting rock bottom and rising up to make it as a digital media pioneer, Slikour takes us through the highs and lows of his journey to becoming a force to be reckoned with. He unpacks the energy that connected the dots that propelled the success of everyone he came into contact with.

Siya ‘Slikour’ Metane is a founding member of celebrated hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp and the CEO of SlikourOnLife, a platform dedicated to bringing down barriers, granting access to spaces and facilitating cohesive conversations with corporates so that the stories of musicians and culture participants are seen and heard.

Helen Herimbi-Moremi played a pivotal role in bringing South African hip-hop to mainstream media in the mid-2000s and 2010s as a music journalist. She has interviewed everyone from Angelique Kidjo to Zubz and in addition to being a culture commenter on local and international broadcast and traditional media projects, she has partnered with various brands to bring the stories of African musicians to light. In 2018 she founded i(m)bali, an evolving interview series that aims to give key players in music the platform to tell their stories and receive their flowers while they can still smell them.

'Slikour: The Life Story of a Hip-Hop Pioneer' is published by Penguin Random House South Africa
