Former Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) CEO Sello Hatang has reflected on his 15-year tenure at the organisation, suggesting that his commitment to service is what guided his leadership temperament.
Complaints brought forward by employees at the Foundation recently saw the launch of an internal investigation into Hatang’s personal conduct within the workplace, and found that his conduct had been unbecoming and unacceptable for someone in his position.
He was subsequently fired from his role as the Foundation’s CEO.
“The outcome[s] of the investigation are truly unfortunate, thus, in the immediate term I will be focusing my attention on a matter that is vital to who I am and how I can continue to serve the world: ensuring that my name is restored to reflect the person that I, and others, truly know me to be,” said Hatang.
He thanked the NMF board for allowing him to serve, as well as the family of former President Nelson Mandela, and the staff and the former President himself, for being a “guiding force”.
