For now, Sasbo is not asking for COSATU and its affiliates to boycott Capitec Bank. Sasbo has asked the Federation and all its Affiliates to, on a principle basis, not accept any sponsorships, or actively and publicly support Capitec Bank.
Sasbo is currently organising to be recognised as the collective voice of vulnerable Capitec employees nationally.
In stark contrast to the majority of workers in the Banking and Finance Sector who have, through Sasbo, negotiated for better salaries and decent working
conditions, Capitec workers are vulnerable in many respects, i.e.;
- exploitation by the employer
- being paid low salaries
- working longer hours and not being paid for overtime worked
- unpaid maternity leave and
- double standards in the application of policies
Sasbo remains focused and committed to continue driving the organising campaign in Capitec until such time that we are fully recognised and can collectively
bargain for better salaries and working conditions for members.
Issued by Sasbo President Moses Lekota and Sasbo General Secretary
