The South African Revenue Service (SARS) on Wednesday confirmed that Johann van Loggerenberg, a senior official, has resigned from SARS with immediate effect.
“SARS has accepted his resignation and hereby confirms that the parting of ways was amicable and agreed to be in the best interests of SARS,” it said.
Van Loggerenberg has served SARS for a period of over 16 years, a degree of loyalty which SARS says it appreciates.
“The SARS family wishes Loggerernberg all the best in his future endeavours. SARS considers the matters fully and finally dealt with, completely so and in all respects,” SARS said.
SARS said it will not entertain further requests or enquiries from the media in this regard.
In September last year, SARS had set up a committee of investigation to look into complaints of impropriety against van Loggerenberg.
The then Acting Commissioner of SARS, Ivan Pillay, had appointed Advocate Muzi Sikhakhane (SC) to lead an external Committee of Investigation into complaints of impropriety against Loggerenberg to safeguard the integrity of SARS and its processes.
The need to set an investigation against van Loggerenberg came after Belinda Walter, an attorney and the director of Belinda Walter Attorneys in Pretoria, had made complaints against van Loggerenberg.
The details of their relationship and complaints against the respective parties have been widely reported on in the media last year.
