In response to a written parliamentary question by FF Plus MP Dr Wynand Boshoff, the Minister of Basic Education, Mrs. Angie Motshekga, reiterated her controversial opinion that school pupils in the Foundation Phase (grades 1, 2 and 3) should be progressed automatically. She also said that such a system of "automatic progression" does not currently apply, but confirmed that the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has already begun the necessary preparations for automatic progression in the Foundation Phase.
