Following the suspension of its acting Head Chantal Kissoon, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has announced the appointment of Vusimuzi Mkhize as its new CEO.
Mkhize has a history of public service with positions as director-general in the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture from 2017 to 2022, as well as chief director and deputy chief director in the Department of Home Affairs. He also served as a director for the Department of Education.
Acting SAHRC communications coordinator Wisani Baloyi said on Monday that the Commission welcomed Mkhize and wished him success in his new role of executing the Commission’s mandate to promote and protect human rights and monitor and assess observance thereof in South Africa.
