The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Limpopo Province held its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting to discuss a variety of issues affecting our people in the province and the country.

Nobel Prize for Cuban doctors

The SACP in Limpopo supports and will actively campaign for the Cuban doctors serving humanity at this difficult time of COVID-19 to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The Party in the province will work closely with other progressive forces in this regard including Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS). This would be a demonstration of a progressive step by humanity during this difficult and trying times of the pandemic.

Crises in Southern Africa

The SACP in Limpopo will continue to encourage the government of the Republic of South Africa and the ANC-headed Alliance to continue to work with fraternal governments and movements to solve the crises in Southern Africa. The Islamic insurgency in the northern province of Mozambique, Capo Delgado, is very unfortunate and the region must work together to deal with that threatening security situation. A joint military effort is both necessary and essential in this regard. In this regard the PEC will be guided by the SACP Central Committee.

The SACP Limpopo PEC is also concerned about the deteriorating political and security situation in Zimbabwe. The collapse of Zimbabwe affects South Africa, one way or the other. There are already more than four million Zimbabweans recorded looking for better conditions of life in South Africa. The political and security situation should not be allowed to degenerate even further. The PEC supports the attempts by ANC and government to deal with the situation.

Dealing with Covid-19

The SACP Limpopo PEC welcomes the work that has been done in the province to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. We particularly send our appreciation to the frontline workers who risked their lives under trying conditions to help fight the pandemic. We commend them for their commitment and selfless dedication to the service of the people in the province. We are, however, concerned and disappointed by the job losses as a consequence of the Covid-19 lockdowns. It is really a huge punishment on the already battered working class and poor people of our country. We will work closely with Government to ensure economic recovery and job creation will be prioritised.

The PEC has decided to embark on a process to strengthen SACP structures at all levels from branches, districts to the province. We want all our members and cadres to be actively involved in a membership drive, political education and campaigns on the ground. We believe this will revitalise our structures out of the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Support for the campaign against gender-based violence

We commit to work with all progressive and fraternal bodies in the fight against the scourge of gender-based violence facing our nation. We commend the government in the work it has been doing in this regard.

Fight against corruption

We support the concerted efforts by the people of South Africa to fight against corruption. We will work together with the various organisations involved in this work. The scourge of greed, corruption, fraud and nepotism in our country is nauseating. We support the various investigations including those about alleged Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) corruption to be swift and bring results. Anyone found involved in corruption must face the full might of the law, pay back the money and go to jail.

Provincial Alliance Summit

The SACP in Limpopo is concerned about the Alliance relations in the province, particularly because the Alliance does not function as it should. The SACP PEC wants a Provincial Alliance Summit to be convened as soon as possible to discuss, amongst others, the state of governance in the province, the state of municipalities, the fight against corruption, Alliance deployment processes and joint political education programmes.

Full support for Cosatu National Strike of 7 October 2020

The SACP in Limpopo fully supports and will participate in the Cosatu National Strike of 7 October 2020. We will deploy our leaders to attend, address and lead the marches on the day along with Cosatu leaders and those of other Alliance partners. The issue of government reneging on a properly agreed upon and signed wage agreement is totally unfathomable. The Party will always stand on the side of the workers and poor.

Meeting with Cosatu leadership in the province

The SACP in Limpopo will hold a scheduled joint meeting with the leadership of Cosatu in the province during this week. This meeting will deal with issues that affect the fraternal partners including the critical issues that Cosatu raised recently. We will outline our posture at the end of the various interactions.
