The South African Communist Party (SACP) pays special tribute to and salutes the people of Sri Lanka in the election of Anura Dissanayake as Sri Lanka’s president. 

As a leader of the progressive forces, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and the National Peoples' Power alliance, the election of Anura Dissanayake marks a crucial step forward towards mass power for the Sri Lankan people in their major strides for the development of their country grounded in working-class democracy. This is an important step in the international struggle of the working class against imperialism, the struggle for a just, peaceful and developmental world order. 

The SACP sends its great wishes to President Anura Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka as they continue to build their country collectively and improve the material conditions of the people.
