The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Gauteng Province successfully convened a special Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting on September 2, 2023, at the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre in Kempton Park. The PEC had the privilege of hosting a delegation from the Central Committee (CC), led by General Secretary Cde Solly Mapaila, 1st Deputy General Secretary Cde Madala Masuku, and the convenor of CC deployees in Gauteng, Cde Jenny Schreiner.

While the leadership expressed concerns about some individualistic, anarchist, adventurist behaviour and factional tendency finding expression in our province, it unequivocally affirmed its support for the PEC leadership collective led by Provincial Secretary Cde Jacob Mamabolo.

PROVINCIAL CONGRESS PREPARATIONS

At the core of the preparations for the 13th provincial congress was the presentation of the organisational assessment report. This process emphasised crucial organisational tasks related to the rebuilding of party structures and the reinforcement of efforts to make the party a campaigning organisation for the working class and the poor in the province.

To this end, the leadership endorsed the decision to convene a provincial lekgotla in the coming weeks, which will serve as a preparatory platform for the provincial congress.

EMPHASIS ON UNITY AND DISCIPLINE

The central theme emphasised by the leadership was the imperative need to rebuild the party on the foundation of principled unity and discipline, in line with the traditions of our Marxist-Leninist perspective.

The leadership unequivocally conveyed that the endeavor to unite the working class into a formidable force demands a resolute, unified, and disciplined organisation. Unity stands as an essential prerequisite for forging a party that can systematically concentrate the leadership of the working class, equipping it to confront contemporary challenges with precision.

STATE OF THE PROVINCE

The leadership also received a comprehensive briefing from the PEC on the developments within the province. In particular, the leadership was informed once more about the suspension of the following comrades: Mpapa Kanyane (1st Deputy Provincial Secretary), Lulama Nare, Phiri Matsemela (PEC members), and Kgabo Morifi (YCL Provincial Secretary).

Furthermore, the leadership was briefed on the PEC’s decisive step of dissolving the following three districts: Oupa Phasha (Ekurhuleni), Vaal (Sedibeng), and Dr. Yusuf Dadoo (West Rand). The PEC has acted swiftly by appointing the interim leadership to oversee the transition, ensuring the continued pursuit of the party's objectives in these areas.
