The South African Communist Party (SACP) dips its red banner in tribute to Comrade Vuyani Tyhali (29 March 1960 - 5 October 2022), leader of the Communist Party of Lesotho.

The SACP conveys its heartfelt condolences to Tyhali’s family, the Communist Party of Lesotho and the entire working-class of Lesotho both in Lesotho and South Africa, as well as in other countries in Southern Africa and elsewhere.

Comrade Vuyani was also a former General Secretary of the Lesotho Teachers Trade Union which he served diligently. The SACP also conveys its condolences to the educators and the trade union movement at large.

An internationalist, he also worked closely with the South African underground movement in Lesotho during the struggle against the apartheid system. His role as an internationalist contributed to the dislodging of apartheid in South Africa, bringing peace to the region.

One of his wishes was to see greater integration in Southern Africa, especially focusing on Lesotho and South Africa.

In memory of Comrade Vuyani Tyhali, the SACP will continue to foster the unity of the working-class and the peasants independently of nationality in Southern Africa and Africa at large. The working-class and peasants have the duty to take forward the ideals for which Comrade Vuyani fought for, in particular his internationalism.

Tyhali was also a diplomat and represented Lesotho in South Africa, focusing on the geographical areas assigned to him, including working with mine workers.
