The South African Communist Party (SACP) strongly condemns the apartheid Israeli settler state’s continuing genocide on Palestinian people and military aggression against other states. We reiterate our solidarity with the Palestinian people, support for the freedom of historical Palestine and calls for a permanent ceasefire and for Israel to implement the International Court of Justice’s January 2024 judgment to stop the genocide. Over and above this, the leaders of the Israeli regime must be held to account to the fullest degree of justice.

On Monday, 15 April, a new mass grave was discovered in one of the courtyards of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, which the Israeli regime brought under siege as it continues the genocide on Palestinian people. The mass grave contained decomposed bodies, adding to the over 33,000 Palestinians murdered by the Israeli regime under the orders of Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of the atrocious regime, and his inner circle. The majority of the victims of the genocide, over 75 per cent, are children and women. Included in the victims are the United Nations humanitarian and other workers.

On 2 April, as it expanded its atrocious military aggression, the imperialist-collective-West-backed Israeli regime attacked the embassy of Iran’s consular affairs building on the territory of another country, Syria, killing members of senior personnel and staff. In addition, this military attack amounted to a violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of both Syria and Iran.

The United States-led Western imperialist states and their Group of Seven or G7 inter-governmental political and economic circle did not condemn Israel’s atrocious violations and the provocation of wider war. Instead, the imperialist regimes and their embedded media mouthpieces, as well as uncritical media practitioners who take their cue from them in other countries, hypocritically labelled Iran’s retaliatory self-defence response, an attack on Israel.

The SACP calls on the working class in the Middle East and across the world to unite and intensify the struggle to end global injustice and its modern chief representative, imperialism.
