It is with regret that the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) notes the resignation Eskom’s CEO, Mr Brian Dames, who has lead the organisation through some of its most difficult times.

Brian took over the helm of the organisation in 2010, not long after the country suffered devastating rolling black outs. Since that time Eskom has faced continued increased demand for electricity, constrained generation capacity, a difficult economic environment and tight financial circumstances. Under the leadership of Brian, Eskom has shown noteworthy dedication to, and has been successful in “keeping the lights on” and to ensuring that efficiencies are introduced at all levels of society, for which he must be commended.

During Brian’s tenure as CEO, the philosophy of energy efficiency, reduced consumption and environmental responsibility has been strengthened. A number of initiatives that present clear indications of his commitment to reducing electricity usage and improving energy efficiency, thereby reducing South Africa’s carbon footprint were introduced, such at the 49m campaign, the residential energy efficiency programme, renewable energy projects and the strengthening of the eta awards that were made at a ceremony last night.

SACCI pays tribute to Brian for his leadership of one the largest power utilities on the globe and wishes him success in his future ventures.
