Architectural profession regulator the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (Sacap) has expressed its intent to work closely with the Ekurhuleni Mayor’s office and the Department of Human Settlements to overcome challenges and advance sustainable development.
Sacap met with MMC Nomadlozi Nkosi on behalf of the Mayor on September 10, during which the parties discussed critical challenges faced by architectural professionals in the building plan submission process and the involvement of architectural professionals in human settlement planning.
Sacap president Charles Nduku emphasises the urgent need for enhanced collaboration to achieve housing policy objectives and more sustainable human settlement developments.
The parties agreed to a follow-up between Sacap, the Ekurhuleni Mayor’s office and the MEC for Human Settlements.
The second meeting will explore how architectural expertise can contribute to creating functional and safe human settlements, including buildings that are resilient to extreme weather, promote energy efficiency and integrate renewable energy and high-performance materials.
