Suspended South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) acting CEO James Aguma is to launch an urgent Labour Court application challenging the lawfulness of his disciplinary hearing.

Aguma faces charges of breaching his contract and frustrating his employer during the disciplinary hearings of axed COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

During Aguma's hearing on Tuesday, his lawyer Osborne Molatudi told chair Professor Taki Madima that they would approach the Labour Court.

Molatudi told Madima that his client had not been provided with the resolutions made by the interim board of its intention to suspend him and requested that the matter be set aside as it was not lawful.

After Madima refused to dissolve the proceedings, Aguma's legal representation wrote an urgent letter to the chair as well as to the SABC's legal representation to have the matter adjourned for Aguma to take the matter to the Labour Court.

Madima, however, refused to adjourn the matter saying only the courts could halt proceedings.

The hearings were postponed to Wednesday July 19 for the SABC to present its case.
