North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Manketse Tlhape is hard at work removing all the stumbling blocks which are hindrances to viable institutions of traditional leaders. As per her promise of engaging all departmental stakeholders, she met with executive members of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Local House of Traditional Leaders at Taung Tusk, were members registered their concerns which included lack of proper office space.
MEC Tlhape pledged to further enhance government’s quest to create effective and functional institutions of traditional leadership. She said the department is also looking into how best they can deal with the issue of providing office accommodation for Local Houses of Traditional Leaders. “In order for these structures to fully function as structures of government, we need to provide a more conducive working environment for them. They cannot just operate without proper tools of trade and decent space”, she said.
Chairperson of the local house, Kgosi Thuso Letlhogile expressed his appreciation and applauded MEC Tlhape for taking time to visit their district to listen to their challenges and commit to derive amicable solutions for these challenges. MEC Tlhape’s will have similar engagements with local houses of traditional leadership in Ngaka Modiri Molema and Bojanala Platinum Districts on dates that will be announced soon
