The Portfolio Committee on Police has expressed its serious condemnation of the burglary that occurred at the head offices of Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI/ Hawks) on Tuesday evening and has resolved to call the acting Head of the Hawks, Lt Gen Yolisa Matakata to come and explain the circumstance under which this security breach occurred.
“The Committee finds it difficult to comprehend how this burglary occurred in an office that has a responsibility to fight organised and serious crimes.
There’s a lot at stake here and we want the Acting Head to brief the Committee about this serious breach,” said Mr Francois Beukman, the Chairperson of the Committee.
Mr Beukman said this after reports emerged this morning that intruders broke in at the Hawks offices and stole computers containing confidential information in the areas of human resources, finance and supply chain management.
