Parliament joins the football fraternity in mourning the passing-on of legendary Bloemfontein Celtics Football Club founder and Life-President Dr Rantlai Petrus Molemela yesterday morning.
Dr Molemela, born on 16 April 1933, passed away on Sunday morning (26 March 2017) following a long period of illness.
Ntate Molemela, as he was affectionately known, was a colourful figure in the South African football fraternity. He is credited for singlehandedly turning the Club into one of the most recognisable brands in SA football - with limited resources – before he sold it to Jimmy Augousti, a former Celtics player. The team’s home ground, the old Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Rocklands, was refurbished and renamed after him.
Parliament extends its sincere sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and friends of this great South African.
Issued by Parliament of the Republic of South Africa
