Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe has called on South Africans to share what they would like President Jacob Zuma to talk about during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) this year.

Radebe on Tuesday said inputs can be made through the Twitter account @PresidencyZA prior to President Zuma’s address on 12 February.

Radebe briefed the media before the sitting of the Cabinet Lekgotla at the Presidential Guest House in Pretoria.

He said SONA is meant for the citizens of the country to know what government’s programme of action is for the next 12 months.

The lekgotla, which ends on Thursday, will also review the progress made in the implementation of the Medium Term Strategic Framework, which covers the period 2014 – 2019, and the economic outlook.

“The emphasis of this Cabinet lekgotla is about the economy… The main focus must be on the economic transformation of South African society in the sphere of the Freedom Charter,” Radebe said.

Service delivery and energy issues are also on the lekgotla agenda.

“The issue of the economy is top of the agenda. Service delivery is very critical in making sure that we put our economy on the right footing to create jobs and also to ensure that inequalities and poverty are alleviated in South Africa,” Radebe said.

He said acts such as the disruption of education in Malamulele, Limpopo, had to be condemned, and that law enforcement agencies needed to ensure that order is restored in the area.

“There is no amount of protest and grievance that gives people the right to destroy property and not allow our children to go to school. It is also a month now since schools have opened. Our children in Malamulele are not going to school. This is wrong,” said Radebe.
