After extensive deliberations, including through engaging with the Committee’s legal advisor, all represented political parties in the Standing Committee on Finance agreed on the resolution below:
The Committee, after deliberations on the available evidence, is concerned about the legality of the extension of the term of office of the Chairperson of the Board of SAA.
The Committee therefore believes that the decision to extend the term of office of the Chairperson must be reviewed.
The Committee requests that the Minister provide it with all documentary evidence relating to the extension of her term of office or her reappointment, including compliance with the provisions of the Companies Act and specifically the notice to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, provided such notice was given.
The Committee requests that the Minister responds to the Committee within seven days of receipt of this resolution.
The Committee strongly recommends that the Annual General Meeting be held before the end of this calendar year.
“Although Committee members raised issues about the suitability of Ms Dudu Myeni to serve as South African Airways (SAA) Board Chairperson, the resolution adopted by the Committee is based on legal concerns,” said Mr Yunus Carrim, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance.
Issued by Parliamentary Communication Services on behalf of the Chairperson of the Portfolio Standing Committee on Finance, Yunus Carrim
