The Portfolio Committee on Police says its major focus will be on the effectiveness of strategies geared at reducing contact crimes when the Minister of Police and Acting National Commissioner release the 2016 crime stats in Parliament tomorrow.
Committee Chairperson, Mr Francois Beukman, says these crime stats will also serve as a barometer of the effectiveness of the strategies employed in ensuring heighted trust levels communities have in the police.
The stats will be released at 9am tomorrow (Friday, 3 March 2017) during the meeting of the Police Committee which will be held in Committee Room V454 on the Fourth Floor of Parliamentâ•˙s Old Assembly Building.
The Committee will use this meeting to analyse the impact the back to basics approach, as well as the progress the turnaround of the detective services has had in reducing crime.
The Committee will also scrutinise the methodology the South African Police Service (SAPS) used in the compilation of these crime stats.
Issued by Parliamentary Communication Services on behalf of the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Mr Francois Beukman
