The Portfolio Committee on Communications has welcomed the report from the Minister of Communications, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo, in relation to delayed appointment of the full-time Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

Minister Dlodlo informed the Committee that she inquired with the Office of the President before the term of office of the Interim board expired last week Tuesday, 26 September 2017.

She said the President requested her Ministry to provide more information relating to qualifications and security checks of the recommended candidates in order to avoid what had previously happened with the appointment of the previous Board.

The Committee further noted Minister Dlodlo’s report that the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) has committed to conclude qualification checks in the next two days.

Although he expressed a concern about the prolonged time to verify qualifications, Committee Chairperson Mr Humphrey Maxegwana, thanked the Minister for the report.

He reiterated that security check and verification of qualifications are important to avoid what had happened in the past.
