The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services welcomes the North High Court judgement on the former Public Protector’s recommended remedial actions after investigation into state capture.
The court found that President Zuma must institute a commission of inquiry into the state capture within 30 days, which would be headed by a judge appointed by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, as per the "binding" remedial actions in the report. President Zuma was also found to be personally liable for the cost of his legal challenge.
The Chairperson of the Committee Dr. Mathole Motshekga said: “The nation will be assured that we have an independent judiciary that continues to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law in the country and that all citizens regardless of their public or private standing are subject to the Constitution and the rule of law”.
Issued by Parliamentary Communication Services on behalf of the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services, Mathole Motshekga
