ActionSA has hailed the Springboks’ victory at the 2023 Rugby World Cup as an important lodestar for positive social improvement within the country.
The party has commended the national rugby team for igniting feelings of pride and solidarity amid ongoing issues of loadshedding, unemployment, crime and corruption.
Further, ActionSA president Herman Mashaba took the opportunity to reflect on the state of the country, alluding to a general discontent displayed towards the ruling party.
“When women fear walking in our streets, or a young person battles to find a job; when our borders are porous and compromising the sovereignty of our country, it is difficult to keep hoping in the future. When the lights or water keeps going off, there are potholes in our streets, and the price of food keeps increasing, it’s difficult to believe that there is a possibility left in South Africa,” he said.
Mashaba opined that the Springboks’ World Cup victory served as a reminder of the country’s burgeoning potential and called for South Africans to continue believing in the country’s future. He has also urged citizens to register to vote in next year’s elections.
“Indeed, the Springboks showed the best of us. They showed what is possible when people from diverse backgrounds work together to achieve a common goal. They showed South African excellence and displayed how – even when faced with adversity – we show the character of our convictions,” said Mashaba.
