Learning and teaching has been disrupted by the School Governing Body (SGB) at Rodney Mokoena Primary School in Soshanguve today, forcing learners to miss a day of schooling.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has been reliably informed that this morning the SGB and teachers were fighting in front of the learners at the Rodney Mokoena Primary School.
We condemn in the strongest terms the shutting down of a school by the SGB and their unacceptable behaviour.
The valuable learning and teaching time has now been lost and our learners are the ones on the losing end as learners in other schools are being taught.
Our schools need to be safe places for both learners and teachers. The parents and the SGB must provide support to schools so that a conducive environment for learning and teaching can be created.
The DA will be keeping a close eye on the situation and engage with the Head of the Education Department to intervene. This will help to ascertain exactly why the SGB confronted the teachers at the school and ensure that learners are back to school tomorrow.
