The impeachment committee that will probe allegations involving President Cyril Ramaphosa's Phala Phala scandal will be chaired by RISE Mzansi’s Makashule Gana.

Committee members voted on Monday to elect a chairperson to lead the committee considering the Section 89 inquiry process regarding the allegations against Ramaphosa, specifically the findings of the Independent Panel Report, which found prima facie evidence of potential violations by the president.

Also nominated with Gana was United Africans Transformation’s Lehlohonolo Mahlatsi.

Gana secured the support of 19 members, while Dr Mahlatsi received 12 votes.

“The committee will now turn its attention to determining its programme of work and the next steps in the enquiry process. Details of future meetings and activities will be communicated in due course,” the impeachment committee said in a statement.
