President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday expressed confidence in the newly appointed Deputy Public Protector (DPP) Advocate Nompilo Kholeka Gcaleka, saying he was confident Gcaleka would execute her responsibilities with diligence and commitment.
Gcaleka was a special adviser in the National Treasury and Home Affairs Ministry and will now serve seven years as DPP effective February 1.
Gcaleka replaces Kevin Malunga, whose term of office came to an end in December.
Ramaphosa wished Gcaleka well and expressed his gratitude to Advocate Malunga for his contribution in the Office of the Public Protector and for his service to South Africa.
Gcaleka is an admitted Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and a former national chairperson of the Society of State Advocates of South Africa, as well as a member of the Black Lawyers Association.
Gcaleka has also served as Senior State Advocate and Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in the National Prosecuting Authority.
