The community of Makause is outraged by illegal and unlawful evictions that took place in Makause on Tuesday, 01 March 2017 ordered by Ekurhuleni Municipality justifying it as relocation. As community members we are concerned that most people were not around when their homes were demolished and belongings taken by force in the presence of the EMPD and SAPS.

In all this, there was no formal consent, court order or meaningful engagement with the affected families. Most of them came back later from work only to discover that they are homeless. As community members we are worried that the government is using money to divide our community by employing hungry members of community within Makause to carry out these unjust demolitions. The community tried to complain to the police but Primrose Crime Sector Forum Manager, Sergeant Dikobe and the Head of Visible Policing Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Maswanganyi said there's no crime committed so they can't do anything in terms of this.

We cannot afford to act as if it’s business as usual when marginalised communities like Makause is been treated like this by the elected leaders. We are tired of lip-service, we want delivery especially around providing decent housing for the poor.
