The Public Servants Association (PSA) one of the largest trade unions in the Public Service, welcomes the Minister's announcement regarding the commencement of a comprehensive roadshow and workshops to engage stakeholders on the National Health Insurance (NHI) Act. Following the signing of the NHI Act, numerous stakeholders have raised significant concerns.
The Minister has highlighted that Section 57 of the NHI Act, which pertains to transitional arrangements, will be implemented. This section allows the Minister to outline the timeframe for the implementation of the Act while the consultation process is ongoing. The PSA is pleased that various stakeholders, including healthcare bodies, trade unions, and business organisations within the health sector, will have the opportunity to submit their inputs on the mechanisms for implementing the NHI Act.
The extensive roadshows will provide a platform for stakeholders to voice their issues and influence the process moving forward. This proposed consultation is expected to minimise legal challenges by addressing most of the concerns raised, potentially saving the country substantial amounts of money and avoiding court battles.
The PSA looks forward to a collaborative and constructive engagement process that will ensure the successful implementation of the NHI Act, benefiting all South Africans.
