The Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality needs the support of all spheres of government in order to meet the city's challenges. This is the view of Cllr Michael Sun who attended an oversight visit by the National Council of Provinces in Lenasia on Wednesday on behalf of Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Phalatse.

"Provincial and National governments need to work with the local administration in our city to meet the challenges facing residents in the Johannesburg metropolitan municipality," Cllr Sun said."

"We may all have different ideas on how to address issues in areas such as provision of services and housing, but it will go nowhere without the necessary funds."

Many strong suggestions were made by visiting members of the NCOP during oversight visits to a number of informal settlements in and around Lenasia, Region G in Johannesburg.

Ranging from providing immediate services such as electricity and water & sanitation, cutting grass, providing lighting to relocating residents. However, little consideration was taken into how these measures would be paid for.

With several of the informal settlements visited also occupying land illegally, this further complicates the process of finding a lasting solution to these challenges.
