The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes President Cyril Ramaphosa’s acknowledgment of the game-changing visa reforms spearheaded by Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber. We appreciate the President’s recognition of this bold and significant step by Minister Schreiber towards unlocking job creation and economic growth.

Minister Schreiber’s introduction of the Remote Work Visitor Visa and the Points-Based System for Work Visas is the most ambitious pro-jobs reform in decades. These changes have been developed and championed as part of Minister Schreiber's unwavering commitment to jobs and growth, cutting red tape, combatting corruption in the visa system, and ensuring that South Africa can attract critical skills and foreign investment.

We welcome the President’s support for these reforms. As we move forward, the DA will continue to push for the implementation of further economic reforms to ensure that South Africa remains competitive in the global market and that job creation remains a top priority.
