The Progressive Professionals Forum (PPF) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected Public Protector, Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, who was voted in as the new head of the Chapter 9 institution by the National Assembly on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

The PPF, a non-racial, non-sexist, and non-xenophobic organization of progressive professionals, academics, intellectuals, and patriotic entrepreneurs, is dedicated to upholding the values enshrined in the Freedom Charter and the Constitution of South Africa. The PPF prides itself on having witnessed a decisive implementation of the African National Congress (ANC) decision, supported by other parties, to vote for Advocate Gcaleka. This vote demonstrates an unwavering commitment to Black Excellence and reaffirms the principles of inclusivity and equal opportunity for all South Africans.

In the same breath, the PPF wishes to express its deep concern and disappointment at the conduct of certain opposition parties during the voting process. Such behavior undermines the core values of democracy and detracts from the sanctity of democracy. It is disheartening to see a distinguished individual such as Advovate Gcaleka being unfairly undermined and subjected to disparagement.

The PPF calls on the general public to recognize these political parties for what they are, including the conduct of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and other smaller black parties that, at times, claim to represent the interests of black people and professionals. However, they opportunistically align themselves with the Democratic Alliance (DA), a party that openly shows its lack of confidence in black African professionals. Such opportunistic behavior is counterproductive and detrimental to the unity and progress of our nation.

As a think tank and resource base for South Africa's pursuit of its developmental goals through policy, research, and advocacy, the PPF unequivocally condemns the conduct and opportunistic behavior displayed in the National Assembly on Thursday.

Furthermore, the PPF applauds all parties that voted in favor of a black African woman professional to assume a key role in accelerating the implementation of the socio-economic agenda.

The PPF calls upon the new Public Protector, Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, to restore the positive reputation and credibility of this esteemed office by discharging her responsibilities with professionalism and ethics and wishes her well.
