Low water pressure or intermittent water supply is expected in the short term as a power outage impacted the pumping operations of Rand Water’s Eikenhof Booster Station.
City Power reported a major power outage on Monday, triggered by an incident at the Fordsburg substation, affecting the Orlando switching station and resulting in widespread power loss.
The outage halted pumping capacity at Rand Water's Eikenhof Booster Station, which relies on City Power for its electricity supply.
While electricity supply has been fully restored, the areas supplied by the Waterval, Roodepoort, Krugersdorp, Weltevreden, Meredale, Witpoortjie, Libanon, Driefontein, Barnardsvlei and Rustenburg reservoirs are likely to experience low water pressure or intermittent water supply until all systems fully recover.
“As a result, customers in the City of Johannesburg, as well as the local municipalities of Mogale City, Merafong, Rand West City, Rustenburg, Madibeng and the Royal Bafokeng Administration, may experience prolonged water supply disruptions. Various industries, mines and direct customers may also be affected,” Rand Water said in a statement on Tuesday.
