The power system is showing signs that it is stabilising in the short-term with no unit trips reported as at 16:30 today. We also managed to preserve our diesel stock as we did not need to operate the open cycle gas turbines today. Our pumped storage schemes were moderately utilised as there was adequate generation capacity to meet the day’s demand for electricity.

No loadshedding is expected tomorrow as there is adequate generation capacity to meet demand, and emergency reserves are also available to supplement capacity, should the need arise.

The system however remains constrained with unplanned outages or breakdowns at 11 576MW as at 16:30 this afternoon. Our teams continue to work around the clock to reduce the incidents of breakdowns to below 9 500MW in order to increase available capacity and limit the risk of loadshedding.

We are monitoring the system closely and we will continue to give periodic updates on the status of the power system as things may change at short notice. We ask customers to continue to use electricity wisely throughout the day and night.
