Eskom has not implemented rotational loadshedding for the past five days and there is no loadshedding expected today. The probability of loadshedding is low for the weekend and the following week.
Eskom’s electricity system has made significant progress towards full recovery after severe supply constraint was experienced, due to high levels of unplanned breakdowns that had exceeded 10 500MW, which caused the company to implement loadshedding last week. Loadshedding was last implemented on Saturday, 19 October 2019. While the generating plant performance has improved, the plant continues to remain vulnerable and any unexpected shift such as an increase in unplanned breakdowns could result in loadshedding at short notice.
Recovery teams continue to work hard to return units and improve generation and operational performance to further stabilise the power system.
Eskom wishes to thank customers for their understanding and for using electricity sparingly. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.
We will continue to keep South Africans informed about the status of the electricity system.
