The Hawks are still looking to arrest two more people in connection with the brazen break-in at President Cyril Ramaphosa's Limpopo game farm, Phala Phala, in which $580 000 was stolen.

However, neither of the people are in South Africa.

The head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, revealed this during a media briefing in Pretoria on Thursday on the unit's successes in the second quarter of the 2023/2024 financial year.

After fielding a question about the Phala Phala investigation, Lebeya said they were still pursuing the two people.

"They are currently not in the country, which is why it has not been easy to get hold of them like we have done with the others," he responded.

He did not speak about where the others were and if there were any plans to extradite them.

The others Lebeya was referring to are Froliana Joseph, who worked as a cleaner at Phala Phala; her brother, David Joseph; and self-proclaimed "diamond boy" Imanuwela David. They are suspected of playing key roles in the break-in.

All three were arrested earlier this month and appeared in the Bela-Bela Magistrate's Court on charges relating to the February 2020 burglary and theft of the dollars, which were allegedly hidden in a sofa.

News24 previously reported that the cash was reportedly payment from Sudanese businessman Hazim Mustafa for several buffalo bred at Phala Phala.

Last week, the Bela-Bela Magistrate's Court granted Froliana and her brother bail of R5 000 and R10 000, respectively.

Magistrate Predeshni Poonan found there was no reason to refuse their bail applications.

"The court finds that there appears to be an equilibrium between the interest of the accused and those of justice, and therefore, it is in the interests of justice that accused number 2 and accused number 3 be released on bail," she said.

The State did not oppose the applications.

In her quest for bail, Froliana, who allegedly alerted the burglars to the money she had found, said she intended to plead not guilty to charges.

Froliana claimed the State's case was weak and she would likely be acquitted.

News24 previously tracked down and interviewed Froliana, who vehemently denied she was the hidden hand who guided the burglars to the loot.

She told News24 at the time that she knew nothing of the robbery and did not know the Namibians who allegedly made off with the cash.

Her brother sang a similar tune, citing his intention to plead not guilty.

Meanwhile, the State intends to oppose the bail application of Imanuwela David, which will be heard on 6 December.

News24 previously reported that David underwent a significant lifestyle shift after the burglary.

Images and videos he posted to Instagram showed a lavish lifestyle, including diamond-studded "grillz" - decorative dental jewellery. In one of the videos, he called himself "diamond boy".

He also reportedly bought a fleet of cars, including a VW Golf R7, VW Polo 1.2 TSI, BMW M5, two Mercedes-Benz G63s and a Porsche Carrera.

His flashy lifestyle was reflected in visuals that were shared online.
