The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced that both grades of petrol – 93 and 95 – will decrease by R1.24 a litre, with effect from June 5.
Diesel prices will also decrease by between R1.08 and R1.18 a litre.
The decreases are attributable to a decrease in the average Brent crude oil prices and the rand having appreciated against the dollar.
The cumulative slate amounted to a negative balance for petrol and diesel of R696.3-million at the end of April.
In line with the provisions of the self-adjusting slate levy mechanism, a slate levy of 4.38c/ℓ will be applicable in the price structures of petrol and diesel with effect from the June 5, which is a decrease of 17.54c/ℓ on the prices of both diesel and petrol.
