As part of finalising the establishment of structures of the 7th Parliament, the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests today elected Ms Lusizo Makhubela from the National Assembly (NA) and Mr Joseph Britz from the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) as joint co-chairpersons.
According to Joint Rule 160 of the Joint Rules of Parliament, the committee “must elect one of the members of the Assembly component and one of the members of the Council component in the committee as co-chairpersons".
The co-chairpersons preside at committee meetings except when one takes the chair by agreement between them.
The Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests’ core functions include implementing the Code of Conduct for Assembly and permanent Council members and developing standards of ethical conduct for Assembly and Council members, among other things.
