The Presiding Officers of Parliament, National Assembly Speaker Ms Thoko Didiza and Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, extend their warm wishes to South Africa's Hindu community for a blessed and festive Diwali/Deepavali 2024.
The festival is significant culturally and religiously as it symbolises new beginnings and the triumph of light over the darkness for the Indian community. It is a time of renewed hope, providing strength and courage to the community to carry goodwill throughout the year. The festival promotes the brightening of the inner self with clarity and positivity.
The Presiding Officers said, "As we celebrate this auspicious festival of lights, we are reminded that diversity is South Africa's greatest strength. May the illuminating spirit of Diwali inspire all South Africans to work together in building a more inclusive society, free from inequality and social discord. Let the radiance of this celebration light our collective path toward unity and understanding."
