The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) supports the strike at Transnet. Since last week Thursday workers at Transnet have been on a strike over a wage dispute to demand higher wages. NUMSA is not a recognised union at Transnet but it has members there. We support the demands of workers and we support their right to strike. Those NUMSA members who wish to participate in the strike may do so, because it is a protected strike.
NUMSA has also noted that the CCMA has been roped in to conduct mediation in terms of section 150 of the Labour Relations Act with all parties. We will be making a joinder application to the CCMA because we are an interested party with members who are also affected by the strike.
Aluta continua!
The struggle continues!
Issued by NUMSA General Secretary, Irvin Jim
