The National Union of Mineworkers is deeply worried that workers have been trapped underground since Friday. The NUM was informed by the  mine management that there was a seismic event at 1.8 magnitudes which resulted to 10-meter rock fall.

"We are concern that there was a similar seismic event at Tau Lekau just on 22 July 2017 which resulted in the death of four workers. We call upon that mining industry to be on the alert. It must learn lessons out of these two incidents and protect lives of the workers," said Erick Gcilitshana, NUM Health and Safety Secretary.

"We sell our labour, not our lives, lungs, and limbs. One death is one death too many as we talk about bread winners of the families," Gcilitshana added.

The NUM will leave no stone unturned during the investigation of this accident.
