The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has announced that Errol Makhubela will be its new Executive for Core Business, effective from December 1.
Makhubela will be part of the NSFAS executive management in charge of student applications support, quality assurance, support services, and value-added support for an optimal student experience.
NSFAS said his appointment brought much-needed relief to the organisation as other executives had to multitask, following the departure of former COO Nthuseng Mphahlele.
“Mr Makhubela is not new to the South African financial services sector. He is a trailblazer who not only kept affairs in check at the National Treasury as a Chief Director: Financial Markets, but [he] has chaired several prominent boards such as the Financial Sector Development and Reform Program (FSDRP World Bank Program) as well as the SADC Exchange Control Committee on Finance and Investment Protocol,” NSFAS said.
Makhubela holds a BCom degree, with majors in Economics and Finance, a postgraduate degree in the Law of Banking and Financial Markets and an MBL degree.
Makhubela will be involved in the organisation’s key operational areas which include applications processing, the disbursements of allowances and the customer care experience. He will also be in charge of facilitating new policies pertaining to student accommodation and direct payments.
“The board regards leadership capacity as a critical element for NSFAS to execute its mandate. This appointment is just one of more appointments to follow in pursuit of building a more capable team,” said NSFAS board chairperson Ernest Khoza.
