The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) on Monday said media reports alleging that security cluster ministers held a secret meeting to protect and give safe passage to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, relies on nameless and faceless sources.

GCIS said government had noted the claims and categorically denies there was a secret meeting held by the security cluster ministers, including the Minister in the Presidency and the Director General of the Presidency in Cape Town.

The media alleged that this meeting was held to plot the safe passage of President al-Bashir during African Union Summit in Johannesburg about a week ago.

“Government remains committed to finalise this matter through the court process. It is expected to provide the court with a report that explains how President al- Bashir left the country,” said GCIS.

The High Court had ruled that President al-Bashir be detained while in South Africa attending the AU Summit.
