Eskom has not implemented rotational load-shedding since Sunday and the probability of load-shedding is low for the week. Any unexpected shift such as unplanned breakdowns could result in load-shedding at short notice.
The recovery progress is on track with maintenance teams working tirelessly to return units to service from planned and unplanned breakdowns. As a result, as of 05h00 this morning, unplanned breakdowns are below 10 500 MW. All units from Hendrina Power Station which had tripped on Monday, due to a transmission fault, have been successfully returned to service. The system’s improvement is largely as a result of several units being returned to service from planned and unplanned maintenance, and our emergency reserves showing significant improvement.
We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.
We will continue to keep South Africans informed about the status of the electricity system and our recovery efforts.
In addition we extend our gratitude to Eskom employees for their hard work and dedication over this difficult period.
