The DA has written to the chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee for human settlements, Albert Mammoga Seabi, to request that the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC) appear to account regarding financial mismanagement allegations. This comes after the DA filed a formal complaint with the Public Service Commission (PSC), calling for an urgent investigation into the NHFC following a series of allegations brought forward by a whistleblower. The allegations against the NHFC include claims of financial mismanagement and irregular increases in board fees, among other concerns.
The NHFC is spending close to R4 million rand on rent for its offices. Whilst an amount of R1 096 972.17 million rands was spent in June 2024 on rental costs and “tenant installation”. This was revealed by the Department of Human Settlements in response to a written parliamentary question by the DA.
This is a simple act of daylight robbery and adds to the allegations we have asked the Public Service Commission to investigate earlier this week in our letter. It is another instance of the NHFC’s misplaced budget priorities and possibly mismanagement of funds in this entity.
The DA will continue to oppose the flagrant waste of taxpayer money while ensuring that the NHFC is held accountable.
