The MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku, extends a warm welcome to Mr Mokgema Mongane, who is the new CEO for the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), effective 05 August 2022.

Mongane has extensive professional experience in management having worked as the General Manager of Capital Development & Assurance at Transnet and as a Chief Operations Officer at the Council for the Built Environment.

The new CEO holds a master’s in business administration from Regenesys; another master’s in engineering management from the University of Pretoria and a bachelor of science honours in civil engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Cllr Echeozonjoku remarked that Mongane comes in at a crucial time for the JDA, when the agency is looking to turn around its fortunes and position itself as the implementing agent of choice for local, provincial, and national government.

“I have high hopes that the new CEO will hit the ground running, dealing with some of the issues currently impacting the work of the JDA, such as non-performing contractors and to have regular interaction with communities to see the true reflection and impact of JDA projects in communities. The JDA is an important entity for the City of Johannesburg and plays a crucial role in the implementation of the Growth and Development Strategy of the City of Johannesburg.

“I am sure that Mr Mongane will have to use all his expertise to make sure that the JDA achieves the multi-party governments mayoral priorities of turning Joburg into an inclusive and business friendly city that gets the basics right,” said Cllr Echeozonjoku.

Issued by City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for Development Planning, Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku
