The High Court of South Africa (Gauteng Division) has granted the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) an extension, to January 12, to make the final decision on Eskom’s revenue application for the 2023/24 financial year.
The regulator was previously required to make a decision by December 24.
Engineering News reported on December 14 that Nersa had postponed making a decision on Eskom’s tariffs for 2023/24 and 2024/25 after its Electricity Subcommittee requested more time to finalise its recommendation.
Eskom’s fifth Multi-Year Price Determination (MYPD5) revenue application, if fully approved, would translate into a 32% hike in its standard tariff on April 1, 2023, followed by a 9.74% increase in 2024/25.
