The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] is currently preparing for a strike action at MEDSCHEME which will commence on the 30th May 2019.

The employer has vehemently refused to implement an agreement reached between NEHAWU and MEDSCHEME on the introduction of a performance management tool. MEDSCHEME had agreed to implement the performance management tool as of the 1st of April 2018. This non-implementation of the agreement has resulted in our members not receiving their performance bonuses.

Our members have been frustrated by the intransigence of the employer and are angered by the inconsideration displayed by MEDSCHEME in relation to making sure that they pay the performance’s bonuses owed to members. The employer has proven beyond reasonable doubt that they have no interest in uplifting the living standard of our members.

The union approached the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration [CCMA] on this matter and a certificate to strike was issued on the 10th May 2019. Several meetings were convened with the employer with a view to resolve impasse but they were unsuccessful. This has led us serving the employer with a notice to strike.

Our members will down tools as early as 10am on the 30th May 2019 and the strike will run indefinitely up until our demands are fully met.
