For over a year, Bloem Street, the main road leading to the Maputswe border post between South Africa and Lesotho, has been left in a state of disrepair. Despite the presence of paving stones along the side of the street, no progress has been made in completing the road. The recent photo opportunity by the Executive Mayor and EPWP workers gave false hope to the community, as no contractor has been assigned to the project.
Meanwhile, the residents of Moerby in Ward 10 continue to be neglected. Despite initial visits and inquiries by DA councillors in council, no meaningful action has been taken to address the sewage running through their yards and the deteriorating condition of the streets. The unbearable smell forces residents to keep their doors and windows closed, while their pleas for assistance have been met with empty promises.
The DA is committed to fighting for the residents of Setsoto. Our councillors will demand answers from the council regarding the amount of funds allocated to the Bloem Street project and when the necessary repairs will be completed. We will continue to advocate for quality services and infrastructure improvements for all residents in Setsoto Local Municipality. The streams of sewage running through the streets must be halted, and the road must be fixed without further delay.
We urge all residents to register to vote in the upcoming elections. Only through active participation in the 2024 elections can we bring about the necessary change to rescue South Africa.
