Thirteen more National Assembly committees elected their respective chairpersons today, with only one committee yet to elect a chairperson.
The Portfolio Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation postponed its meeting to a later date when it will elect a chairperson.
The latest elected committee chairpersons followed Tuesday’s committee meetings where 16 committees elected chairpersons.
During today’s meetings, the following members were elected to serve as committee chairpersons:
- Portfolio Committee on Tourism - Ms Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe
- Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements - Mr Albert Mammoga Seabi
- Standing Committee on the Auditor-General - Mr Wouter Wessels
- Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure - Ms Carol Phiri
- Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs - Dr Zweli Mkhize
- Portfolio Committee on Police - Mr Ian Cameron
- Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture - Mr Joseph McGluwa
- Portfolio Committee on Higher Education - Mr Walter Tebogo Letsie
- Standing Committee on Appropriations - Mr Mmusi Maimane
- Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) - Mr Songezo Zibi
- Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development – Ms Masefako Clarah Dikgale
- Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition - Mr Mzwandile Masina
- Portfolio Committee on Agriculture - Ms Dina Pule
- Portfolio Committee on Land and Rural Development - Ms Tsakani Goodness Shiviti
- Portfolio Committee on Social Development - Ms Bridget Masango
- Portfolio Committee on Electricity and Energy - Ms Nomkhosi Mvana
- Portfolio Committee on Women - Ms Mary-Ann Lindelwa Dunjwa
The election of the chairpersons of committees paves the way for Members of Parliament to start deliberating on budget votes and other important business of Parliament, which requires the attention of committees.
The National Council of Provinces will elect their respective chairpersons tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.
