The City of Johannesburg programming committee on Friday morning accepted ActionSA’s motions of no confidence (MONC) in Mayor Thapelo Amad and Speaker Colleen Makhubele to be heard at the next Council meeting on the 25th April 2023.

The motions will serve in council - despite delaying tactics by the ANC-EFF coalition earlier this week when they absconded from attending programming committee meeting. This is a victory for the residents of Johannesburg who have been embarrassed by an incompetent puppet Mayor installed by Panyaza Lesufi’s ANC and the EFF.

The motions are also serving despite rumours that Mayor Amad might resign ahead of the MONC in an attempt  to spare ANC-EFF coalition embarrassment, demonstrating that our call for the removal of Mayor Amad was indeed the correct one.

Mayor Amad has among other things failed to implement the city’s policies such as the informal trading policy while service delivery continued to decline. Mayor Amad’s ANC-EFF coalition also voted against an ActionSA motion to remove bucket toilets in the city, leaving our most marginalised residents worse off.

Meanwhile, Speaker Makhubele used ‘ill health’ as an excuse not to attend to her Council duties in the City of Johannesburg Council but later spotted in the City of Tshwane on the same day where she is seen attending to internal COPE party squabbles. This is simply inexcusable, and the people of Johannesburg deserve better.

We believe that to fix South Africa, we must remove the ANC and their proxies from power, and we will collaborate with all like-minded political parties to achieve that goal – and to restore good governance and quality service delivery to Johannesburg.

ActionSA will not give up on the people of Johannesburg, and our commitment to fix Johannesburg, through a multi-party coalition that provides ethical and effective leadership at all levels of government.
